Gloucestershire’s new Police and Crime Prevention Plan in place

• There are six priorities: creating safer communities, tackling violence against women and girls, strengthening your constabulary, targeting the causes of crime, supporting victims and reducing reoffending and improving trust and confidence in policing
• Each priority has its own framework to monitor delivery
• The plan comes following feedback directly from the public to Chris and through the OPCC’s perception of crime survey

The strategic document sets out Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Chris Nelson’s aims and objectives for his term of office until 2028.

The Police and Crime plan sets the priorities for the Constabulary to work to and for the PCC and his Office to hold them to account.

The people of Gloucestershire voted Chris Nelson as their Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2024, for his second term of office lasting until 2029. His new Police and Crime Prevention Plan is based on his manifesto and designed to serve the needs of communities in Gloucestershire.

The plan shows the public what their police force should look like and sets the direction of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for the next four years.

The Police and Crime Prevention Plan has six strategic priorities:

• Priority 1: Creating safer communities
• Priority 2: Tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG)
• Priority 3: Strengthening your Constabulary
• Priority 4: Targeting the causes of crime
• Priority 5: Supporting victims and reducing reoffending
• Priority 6: Improving trust and confidence in policing

Mr. Nelson said: “The priorities I have set have the clear goal of making your communities a safer place. 

“In my first term of office I’ve got to know the inner workings of our Constabulary. I’ve listened to victims of crime and residents in the community. All these experiences have helped me shape and set the landscape for policing in Gloucestershire.

“This vision relies on policing by consent and working seamlessly with partners to tackle ingrained criminality in our county.

“All the work set out in this strategic plan aims to improve trust and confidence in your police force. Both the OPCC and the police serve you, the public, and you should feel assured coming to us.

“By the end of my second term I hope to see safer neighbourhoods, a robust police force and the communities we serve feeling engaged and invested in.”

The new Police and Crime Plan will run from April 2025 until 2029.
