Cash injection coming for policing

Gloucestershire’s government grant towards policing will now be some £750,000 more than we were told last December. This will now give us a total of £1.5 million new funding to help pay for policing in the County, particularly in local neighbourhoods.

The Home Office has yet to confirm details of how the funding can be spent, and details for what this specifically means for Operational Policing in Gloucestershire will need to be decided by the Chief Constable, but Police and Crime Commissioner Chris Nelson has welcomed the news.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire, Chris Nelson said: "I am really pleased that at the 11^th hour the Government has listened to our concerns and just announced this much needed extra cash for policing.

"This helps us in the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour in Gloucestershire. Although our budgets remain stretched, this will help deliver on our promises to tackle neighbourhood crime and anti-social behaviour, improving the public's trust and confidence in their police force.

“I am hopeful that these funds will go towards maintaining and improving the service the public receive, and the accessibility of our police in Gloucestershire, because it is vital that you the public see the force that serves you.”

This funding is in addition to the current budgetary assumptions, which will be presented for scrutiny to the County’s Police and Crime Panel next Tuesday, 4 February.
