An investigation is continuing into a collision on the A48 at Minsterworth yesterday in which two women were killed. Despite the best efforts of those in attendance, a woman in her 50s who was driving the Ford and a woman in her 20s who was driving the Vauxhall, both died at the scene.

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Evans said, “It has been a devastating few days on our roads and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the six people who have lost their lives in separate collisions, both yesterday and at the weekend.

“These were truly shocking incidents, happening within days of each other, and my admiration and thanks also go to those members of our emergency services who responded.

“As investigations are still going-on, it is much too soon to speculate on circumstances which might have led to both. However, I, and other members of the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership, are committed to implementing whatever lessons can be learned”.

Cllr Dave Norman, Cabinet member responsible for Road Safety at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I am saddened to hear about the two incidents that have happened in recent days. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives.

“I, and other members of the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership, remain committed to doing all we can to make travelling around the county as safe as possible.”
