Gimme, Gimme, Gimme! PCC spins ABBA on neighbourhood fun day

It was billed as a ‘Community Engagement Day’. A chance for police officers to meet and build relationships with the people who live on the streets they patrol.  

Among the attractions was the Constabulary’s mobile engagement vehicle - a police point on wheels; kids could take their bikes to be security marked and the Music Works’ charity sent its Music Bus.

Music Works is a Gloucester-based organisation that aims to transform young lives through music. But that did not stop the Police and Crime Commissioner from channelling his inner ‘DJ’.

With PCC Chris Nelson on the decks, Jenny’s Field in Tewkesbury was soon reverberating to the sounds of Abba. In between, he also helped some of the younger cyclists protect their bikes by showing them how to add their own, personal security markings.

“It’s not the biggest audience I’ve ever ‘played to’, and to be honest, a bit of ‘dad dancing’ in public is not normally my thing”, said Mr. Nelson, tongue firmly in cheek. “But it was good fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

“It was a really good opportunity for people to meet and get to know their local police in relaxed circumstances and perhaps see them in a different light to what they might expect”.
