Independent Sexual Violence Advisory (ISVA) service - First Light

Service Description:

Our Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) support people who have experienced a recent or historic rape, or serious sexual assault and have reported it to the Police. They will support you on your journey through the criminal justice system. If an offence has not yet been reported, we can also offer support to look at the options available to you.

Service provider

The Gloucestershire ISVA Service is delivered in partnership by First Light and Barnardo’s. Together, we provide specialist support for anyone impacted by sexual abuse, or sexual violence.

We will listen. We will believe you. And we will support you in a way that feels right for you.

Victims we are able to offer support to

This confidential and independent service is open to adults, children and young people of all genders and backgrounds across Gloucestershire. If you have experienced sexual abuse, rape or sexual violence, recently or in the past, our Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service is here to support you.

How we can help

An Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) provides one-to-one emotional and practical support for people who have experienced:

• Sexual abuse (recent or historic)
• Rape or sexual assault
• Online sexual harm, exploitation or grooming
• Non-contact sexual offences (such as indecent exposure or voyeurism)

Your ISVA will work with you to create a support plan based on your needs. They can also liaise with other agencies (like the police or courts) on your behalf. You remain in control at every stage.

You do not have to report to the police to receive support. If you’re unsure, we can talk through your options with care and confidentiality.

What our ISVAs will do

• Support and advise you – without judgement
• Believe and listen to you
• Help you understand your options
• Support you through reporting (if you choose to)
• Attend court with you
• Liaise with police and other services
• Refer you to further support or wellbeing services
• Maintain confidentiality throughout
